MATTHEW D. COWAN earned his law degree from Belmont University College of Law in Nashville. Mr. Cowan obtained the Dean's List during law school, was Vice-President of the Christian Legal Society, and served in various criminal law internship positions. During law school, Mr. Cowan served as legal extern to the Cannon County General Sessions Court. Mr. Cowan is the current General Sessions Judge for Cannon County. He has previously served as Town Attorney for Woodbury, Tennessee and Morrison, Tennessee and as delinquent tax attorney for Cannon County and the Town of Woodbury, Tennessee. He is a co-founding board member of Cannon County CASA. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Cannon County Senior Center. He lives in Cannon County with his family.
Year admitted to the TN Bar: 2015 Experience: 9 Years Practicing Law in Cannon County TARA J. COWAN earned her law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville. Ms. Cowan obtained Dean's List during Law School, and participated in UT's renowned Wills Clinic. During law school, Ms. Cowan served as a legal intern to the 31st Judicial District Public Defender's Office. Upon graduation, Ms. Cowan served as the Junior General Counsel for First National Bank of Middle Tennessee, practicing in the areas of Title and Trust for two years. She joined her brother in Woodbury in 2019, where she began working in private practice. She currently practices law in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, property matters, and more. She also serves as delinquent tax attorney for Cannon County, and the Town of Woodbury, Tennessee. She is a member of the McMinnville Junior Auxiliary and publishes fiction on the side .
